I’ll be honest. My first passion wasn’t photography. It was drawing. I spent much of my childhood drawing in my super secretive sketchbook. I was (and still am) very secretive about my drawings, I don’t know why. And I only draw people – always have. People are the only things I can draw! When I was young, I wanted to be just like my older brother – an immensely talented drawer/painter (who is now a full time artist and professor at Azusa Pacific.) But then I realized I enjoyed drawing most as a hobby, primarily because I didn’t have the patience for it! Photography provides instant gratification :)
So I thought I’d post some random sketches and other various art projects of mine from past years. I’ve got several blogs worth, each blog pertaining to a different medium! It’s kind of fun looking back at old (and often embarrassing) art projects :) Why not share my embarrassment with the world?!

A self portrait. I was 18. My brothers are on either side of me (hence the guitar and paintbrush). Not my best work ever, but it brings back fond memories :)

One of my very first paintings. Portrait of my grandfather. I was 19. This was a timed 10 minute sketch, but it ended up being one of my favorite paintings.

Recognize this fellow? Watercolor. Hands down the hardest medium to master!

I took 4 or 5 life drawing courses just for fun. My favorite class ever. For those of you faint at heart, i posted some of the more decent poses :) Left to right: 1 minute, 2 minute, 5 minute sketches.

Sorry for the horrible quality of this photo! I did this in high school - I think I was 17. My first head sculpture (this one is only about 8 inches tall.) So creepy!

Once upon a time I attempted to create a life-size bust sculpture of my Mom when she was teenager. FAIL. Never got to finish it. The process was more interesting than the product. This was my last sculpture.
